Library information

Description:

The Wiener Library is Britain’s largest and most extensive archive on the Holocaust and Nazi era. The Library holds an exceptional collection of over one million items including published and unpublished works, press cuttings, photographs and eyewitness testimonies. Our mission is: • To serve scholars, professional researchers, the media and the public as a library of record. • To engage people of all ages and backgrounds in understanding the Holocaust and its historical context through an active educational programme. • To be a living memorial to the evils of the past by ensuring that our wealth of materials is put at the service of the future. The Library was founded in Amsterdam in 1933 by Dr Alfred Wiener and came to London in 1939. Its collections, and the manner in which they were collected, are unique and give the Library an authenticity and immediacy not present in other collections that cannot fail to impact on all who come through its doors. The Library’s reputation is built on independence and scholarly objectivity, providing resources to oppose antisemitism, Holocaust denial and other forms of intolerance.
