The AKU global network of libraries supports students and faculty in their study, teaching and research needs.
The Faculty of Health Sciences Library at Karachi supports various educational, research and clinical activities and programmes. It has the best collection of medical literature in Pakistan, both in print and digital formats. The FHS library is now giving priority to providing access to e-resources when they are available. It has access to more electronic resources than many universities in Europe or the United States. The primary objective of the collection is to provide current and up-to-date scholarly and scientific literature. Each year, approximately 1,000 new print books are added to the collection.
The library contains 20,000 books in print, and provides online access to 50,000 eBooks. The library also houses 40,000 bound volumes of scholarly journals and has online access to 12,000 journals available from 25 different online resources. Some of the most popular databases are ScienceDirect, Ovid - Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Journals, Accessmedicine, Wiley InterScience, Cochrane Library, UpToDate, MDConsult, Nursing Consult, Ebrary, Springerlink and PubMed. The library is part of WHO EMRO libraries network and is actively involved in sharing material with partner libraries.
