Library Site http://www.iicb.res.in/ City Kolkata Province/State West Bengal Country India Library Type Special Description With the establishment of Indian Institute of Chemical Biology as Indian Institute of Medical Research on January 01, 1935, the Library and Documentation Division started its journey as one of the prestigious departments. Since its inception, it has been playing a pivotal role of the R & D programmes of the Institute. The Institute could maintain its prestige due to its having a well equipped and well maintained Library and Documentation Division. Since inception, this division has marked rapid growth keeping pace with the development of the Institute and modernization of library sciences – growth in area, growth in its collection development, growth in systems facilities and services. This library is, perhaps, the biggest one on biomedical sciences in the eastern zone of India. It has a very good collection of Journals; Books–text, monographs, references, etc; Symposium, Reports, non-book materials and so on. A point is specially to be mentioned that this library has many of its journals since their inception. It has also a complete collection of ADONIS-Document Delivery Service: a CD-ROM database. It has also a good collection of OVID Medline Database In present days, a library cannot be considered as a mere store house of books. Rather, it plays the role of an Information Centre. And the Library & Documentation Division of Indian Institute of Chemical Biology is also not an exception. With this aim in view, the library extends the following information and technical services & facilities to the users irrespective of this Institute and various outside Educational, Research and Industrial Organizations: 01 Reading-Room facility 02 Literature Search 03 Information Services through CD-ROM and online databases 04 Printouts from CD-ROM databases and online Journals 05 Lending facility 06 Reference and Referral Services 07 Photocopying Services 08 Resources sharing and so on The division has gone metamorphosed gradually. It is maintaining its hard copy collection, side by side, it procures online and digital collection. Thus, it is becoming a hybrid type of library. This library is also a member of CSIR E-Journals Consortium. Computerization of library resources and services are under progress in full swing with the development and installation of the library software named Emlib. Using this web based software one can easily access the library resources (such as availability of a particular Book, Journal, various literature etc.) and gather necessary information very quickly. A few computer terminals are arranged within the library with Internet facility, which are accessible not only to IICB users but also to the outside visitors. System Vendor Mindwire Technology
